Terms of Service

Effective date: March 1, 2026. Version: 2026-03-01.

1. Acceptance of These Terms

By creating an account, accessing, or using Project Scriptura, you agree to these Terms of Service and any policies referenced in them, including the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

You represent that you are legally able to enter into this agreement. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you may use Project Scriptura only with permission and supervision from a parent or legal guardian.

2. About Project Scriptura

Project Scriptura is a Bible reading and community platform that may include features such as accounts, profiles, verse comments, voting, saved studies, public profile settings, private messaging, moderation tools, and related features we add over time.

We may improve, modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time.

3. Accounts and Account Security

You are responsible for your account, your login credentials, and all activity that occurs under your account.

You agree to provide accurate information, keep it reasonably current, and notify us promptly through the Contact page if you believe your account has been accessed without authorization or compromised in any way.

We may refuse registration, reclaim usernames, or suspend accounts where reasonably necessary for safety, legal compliance, impersonation concerns, inactivity, or platform integrity.

4. User Content

"User Content" means content you submit, post, send, upload, save, or otherwise make available through Project Scriptura, including comments, replies, profile information, votes, saved study content, reports, messages, and similar materials.

You retain ownership of your User Content, subject to the rights you grant in these Terms.

You are solely responsible for your User Content and represent that:

  • you have the rights needed to submit it;
  • it does not violate applicable law or third-party rights; and
  • you are allowed to share it.

5. License You Grant to Project Scriptura

By submitting User Content, you grant Project Scriptura and its operators a worldwide, royalty-free, transferable, sublicensable license to host, store, reproduce, process, adapt, modify, translate, format, transmit, display, perform, distribute, and otherwise use that User Content as needed to operate, maintain, improve, secure, moderate, analyze, and promote the service, and to comply with law.

This license includes use for:

  • service operation and feature delivery;
  • moderation, abuse prevention, and safety review;
  • debugging, analytics, and product improvement;
  • backups, archival, and legal compliance; and
  • marketing or promotion of the platform where applicable.

If you post content in public or community-facing areas of Project Scriptura, including verse comments, replies, public profile content, and other content visible to other users, you also grant Project Scriptura and its operators a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, transferable, sublicensable license to curate, edit, excerpt, combine, adapt, reproduce, publish, distribute, translate, create derivative works from, sell, license, and otherwise commercially use that content in any media or format.

This includes, for example:

  • comment collections;
  • devotionals and study guides;
  • teaching materials and email features;
  • editorial compilations and commentary products;
  • promotional materials; and
  • future commercial products based on community contributions.

You agree that Project Scriptura may use public community content with or without attribution, may edit it for length, clarity, style, grammar, formatting, sequencing, or consistency, and is not required to seek additional permission or provide compensation, royalties, approval rights, or accounting.

If permitted by law, you waive any moral rights, rights of attribution, rights of integrity, or similar rights to the extent necessary for these uses. Where a waiver is not permitted, you agree not to assert those rights against Project Scriptura or its authorized users to the fullest extent allowed by law.

These licenses survive deletion of content, account closure, or your stopping use of the service, except where applicable law requires otherwise. Removing content from the platform does not require us to recall, destroy, or stop using materials already created or reasonably prepared in reliance on the rights granted above.

6. Private Messaging

Project Scriptura may offer private messaging between users. Private messages are intended for limited user-to-user communication, but they are not treated as absolutely private or legally privileged communications.

By using private messaging, you understand and agree that private messages may be stored and processed to provide the feature, and that we may review, access, preserve, or disclose message content when reasonably necessary for moderation, abuse investigation, safety, security, technical support, legal compliance, or enforcement of these Terms.

You also understand that recipients may copy, save, report, quote, or share messages they receive, and that we cannot guarantee that private messages will remain confidential, secure, or permanently available.

Unless we state otherwise, private messages are licensed to us for service operation, safety, moderation, and legal purposes under this Section, but they are not treated as public community submissions for commercial publication solely because they were sent through the messaging feature.

7. Community Standards and Acceptable Use

You agree not to use Project Scriptura to break the law, harass, threaten, abuse, defraud, or exploit others, post hateful, violent, sexually exploitative, obscene, or seriously misleading content, or impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity or affiliation.

You must not spam, scrape at harmful scale, manipulate engagement, abuse reporting tools, interfere with the service or infrastructure, attempt unauthorized access, distribute malware, or otherwise use the service in a way that harms other users, the community, or Project Scriptura.

We may set technical, content, and rate limits to protect the platform and its users.

8. Blocking, Reporting, and Moderation

Users may have access to blocking, reporting, privacy, and moderation-related tools. These tools are provided to support safety and community health, but we do not guarantee any particular moderation outcome or response time.

We may monitor, investigate, restrict, remove, disable, or review content, profiles, studies, messages, reports, and accounts at any time, with or without notice, for safety, legal, operational, policy, or integrity reasons.

We may also:

  • remove comments or messages;
  • limit visibility of content;
  • restrict account features;
  • suspend or permanently ban accounts; and
  • preserve records relevant to moderation or legal issues.

9. Public Profiles, Comments, and Saved Study Tools

Your username, public profile information, and public comments may be visible to other users depending on your settings and how the platform works at the time.

Saved studies, exports, and similar tools may let you organize or reuse content. You are responsible for how you share exported or copied material. We do not guarantee permanent storage, continued export access, or retention of any saved material.

10. Intellectual Property and Copyright Complaints

Project Scriptura, including its design, software, branding, and platform content other than user-submitted content, is owned by Project Scriptura or its licensors and protected by applicable law.

Certain Bible translations may be subject to territory-specific rights. For example, KJV access may be restricted in the United Kingdom. Where required, we may limit translation availability by region.

If you believe content on Project Scriptura infringes your copyright, contact us through the Contact page with sufficient detail to identify the work and the allegedly infringing material. We may remove or restrict access while reviewing claims.

11. Feedback

If you provide suggestions, ideas, or feedback about Project Scriptura, you agree we may use them without restriction or compensation to you.

12. Service Availability

Project Scriptura is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access, error-free operation, permanent availability of any feature, or preservation of any content.

The service may change, be interrupted, or be discontinued at any time.

13. No Professional Advice

Project Scriptura may contain scripture, commentary, discussion, and user opinions. Content on the service is for informational, educational, and community purposes only and is not legal, medical, mental health, financial, or other professional advice. User comments are the views of the users who posted them, not necessarily of Project Scriptura.

14. Disclaimer of Warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Project Scriptura disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, availability, security, and accuracy.

15. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Project Scriptura and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, goodwill, data, business opportunity, or other intangible losses arising from or related to your use of the service.

If applicable law does not allow certain limitations, liability will be limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

16. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Project Scriptura and its operators from claims, liabilities, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to:

  • your User Content;
  • your use of the service;
  • your violation of these Terms; or
  • your violation of any law or third-party rights.

17. Governing Law and Venue

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and applicable state law, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from or relating to these Terms or the service must be brought in a court of competent jurisdiction in the United States, unless applicable law requires otherwise.

18. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we may require renewed acceptance before continued use of some or all features. Continued use of Project Scriptura after updated Terms take effect means you accept the revised Terms.

19. Severability and Entire Agreement

If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, that provision will be enforced to the maximum extent permitted and all remaining provisions will remain in effect.

These Terms, together with referenced policies, form the entire agreement between you and Project Scriptura regarding service use.
